IUCB Information Center

In 2005 the IUCB Information Center was established as a non-circulating branch library of the Indiana University School of Medicine Medical Libraries. The IUCB-IC has two priority goals: (1) provide the academic community and Indiana citizenry with bioethics information services and resources by means of (2) developing an online Bioethics Digital Library inclusive of a Central Indiana Bioethics Portal.

Information Center Collection

This is an exciting time for the Information Center. We have a modest book and journal collection relating to bioethics, clinical ethics, philosophy, health & law, and Domestic as well as International Bioethics Commission Reports. In conjunction with developing our online reference resources, we are cataloging, indexing and creating a collection database of our print materials.

The collection database is available online. It is functionally very basic at the moment as we are still developing the web-enabled version. However, one can look at an alphabetical listing of our titles.

As we are a non-circulating Information Center, appointments can be made to access materials. Please contact Cathie McGlynn for more information: 317-278-4034.

Bioethics Digital Library

IUCB is currently developing a Bioethics Digital Library (BEDL). As the body of knowledge and understanding in the field of bioethics grows it becomes more difficult to gain access to primary sources and "gray" literature in digital format which eleviates geographic limitations of access. BEDL will provide open and free online access to all of its digital content.

The value of BEDL lies in its capacity to acquire content, to make it available in digital format, and to archive and preserve it for future use. Content will include, but not be limited to: out of print books that are now regarded as “classic texts” in bioethics and humanities; court decisions and legislation; government documents; the “gray” literature (unpublished, but authoritative professional literature such as conference abstracts, presented papers, commission meeting minutes); full text of journal articles; and both audio and visual materials. The scope will include both domestic and international content.

Indiana University Resources

The IUCB is fortunate enough to be able to collaborate with many different centers, schools, and departments throughout the university. These partner departments are excellent resources for additional information on topics related to the IUCB mission. Please follow the links below to the different areas and their contact people to obtain your information.
